Meet the Team
Dr Luke Stone
(B. Chiro Sci, M. Chiro)
Dr Luke Stone grew up in a family focused on a holistic, conservative approach to healthcare, avoiding medications and invasive procedures like surgeries. He was always active in sports, particularly in surfing, and when he was 16, he hurt his neck surfing. It was a week before his year ten formal, and he wanted to feel great.
His dad took him to the physio and GP—nothing helped. Finally, he tried chiropractic, which allowed him to turn his head again. The noninvasive, restorative approach offered by chiropractic intrigued him.
A Career Built on Service
In 2004, Dr Stone was living in Indonesia when the Boxing Day Tsunami occurred. He then spent a few years in humanitarian aid. Dr Stone loved helping others, which made him consider a career that would allow him to do that and use his hands – chiropractic ticked both boxes.
Dr Stone received his chiropractic education at Macquarie University in Sydney, graduating in 2011 and starting a practice that same year. In 2013, he completed the Academy of Chiropractic Philosophy at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic. He holds certifications in scoliosis management, posture correction, and Chiropractic BioPhysics®.
He opened Back for the Future Chiropractic with the goal of helping people remain upright and active well into their golden years by assessing postural distortions and spinal malalignment and providing corrective care and education to create a proactive approach to health.
Lifelong Care
Offering care for clients from a young age allows us to help kids and teens before problems become advanced and intractable. Some postural changes that we used to see in people in their 50s and 60s are showing up in teenagers now as a result of our dependence on technology. With corrective care and education, we help clients make better choices for long-term health.
Away From the Office
Dr Luke is an avid surfer. So when he isn’t in the office, you can find him catching the waves. He and his partner Zoe recently welcomed their first child.
Dr Alexa Kennedy
Chiropractor
Alexa was first introduced to chiropractic soon after birth when her arm was paralyzed for the first 3 months of her life. Her family took the natural pathways to avoid surgery on their baby and thus her love for chiropractic was 'born'.
Her chiropractic passion stems from her own upbringing that focused on a natural, healthy start to life. Chiropractic helped Alexa to gain mobility, strength and independence when her arm presented challenges. She represented NZ internationally from the age of 10 and at multiple open world championships until age 20 in the sport of trampoline. Alexa knew what she was going to do after school from age 14 as chiropractic was a no brainer for her.
She graduated from The New Zealand College of Chiropractic and after practicing in NZ, moved to the beautiful city of Newcastle.
Outside of her adjusting hours, she loves spending time with her partner, James, going camping, hiking, and getting in the ocean.
Dr Jason Whittal
Chiropractor
From a young age, Dr Jason developed a passion for helping people live a life full of vitality and health. “After significant sporting injuries as a teenager, chiropractic helped me recover and perform at my best without using drugs and surgery. I wanted to find a profession where I could connect with people and impact their lives.”
Education & Certifications
To prepare for his career, Dr Jason earned a B. Chiropractic, Dip Applied Science from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic in 2017.
He’s furthered his education by taking various professional development courses focusing on postural rehabilitation, paediatrics and scoliosis management.
Finding Fulfillment Helping Others
For Dr Jason, the most rewarding aspect of his job is helping people regain mobility and function in their daily lives. He also wants to create resilience in the body so everyone can live a positive lifestyle now and into the future.
Enjoying an Active Family Life
“Outside of the practice, I enjoy spending time with my family and running after our young daughter Mabel.”
Dr Jason is also taking up surfing, is a member of the Newcastle Golf Club, and is a self-described mad New Zealand Warriors and Essendon fan!
Although he was born in South Africa, Dr Jason grew up in New Zealand. Fun fact: he is a triplet with a brother and sister a few minutes younger than him.
